Paulo Folha

1.) Alot of the mainstream skaters outside of Brazil are new to your name despite you having been around since the 80s. Can you introduce yourself to start off this interview?

My name is Paulo Rosin Citrangulo nickname is Folha (because I am vegetarian). I started skateboarding in 1975. In the 80's, I was a few times Brazilian Freestyle Champion and was part of the first wave of Skaters to become Professional.

2.) You have a very interesting graphic on your freestyle model through H-Prol. Tell us more about the story behind it and how you came up with the shape.

That was my second record for the H-Prol team. He came up with the cat face inspired by the album cover of the band Oingo Boingo (Nothing To Fear) that I used to choose their songs to run the championships at the time. And the body was based on the photo of a maneuver I made in a photo that had come out in a Zine (Sktnews). The leaves spaced by the Deck, is in reference to my nickname

3.) Most kids today dont know much about the freestyle scene in Brazil except for glimpses of what Per Canguru showed us. How is the state of freestyle in Brazil today compared to the early days?

The scene in Brazil has always been strong and there have always been Freestyle championships. There was a stop of these events from 1993 to 2002. In 2003 the Competitions returned and from there every year there were Freestyle Championships. In 2009, Freestyle joined the Brazilian SkateboardIng Confederation, and with this, greatly improved the structure of the sport in Brazil. There are always cash prizes and the technical team also receives to work on the events. Currently, we have in the competitions the categories Mirim, Beginner, Female, Amateur, Master, Professional and Master Pro.

4.) Congratulations on your reissue deck on Rattrap. How did the opportunity unfold and how has the feedback been for this release?

I have my brand flh skateboard that I have my current Pro Models, and many Skaters told me to do the relaunch of pro model 80s and I thought it was not the time. Then Ronaldo da Rattrap (who went to meet the Brazilian team at the 2010 World Cup in Philadelphia to make our photos), made me this proposal and I found it interesting and accepted at the time. It wouldn't involve my brand in this and Rattrap took care of everything doing an excellent job with the right to relaunch party in a skateboard-themed snack bar with hired photographer and autograph session. I'm very happy about all this.

5.) Alot of the original freestylers and well into their 50s. How has your body held up all these years? Any old injuries to share?

On June 21 (yes, World Skateboard Day), I'll be 59 years old since I was 11 years old, I've never stopped skateboarding. and I have sequelae in the right hip leg by repetitive movements. I only have one cracked rib, but I have two right shoulder tendons with partial rupture. Every sharp tumble I fall with my right hand as a support, it seems to rupture these tendons a little more. But I think I was supposed to have more problems, I always did some kind of physical preparation parallel to skateboarding, and it helped me and has helped me a lot. My intention is to be practicing Skateboarding to the end, but I am aware that I need to take more and more care. SKATEBOARDER FOREVER!!!
