Well, after a year or so break from skateboarding after my high school years, I began to skate pretty hard and consistently. I felt I was ready to enter the contest scene. By now, I was competing against some of the greatest freestylers the sport had ever seen. Skaters like Per Welinder, Kevin Harris, and of course the true legend of skating, the great Rodney Mullen. After seeing what they were all skating on, I came up with a design similar to theirs. Although my board had similar dimensions, the one noticeable difference was that the nose of my board was much more rounded compared to other skater’s boards. I had approached G&S about making a freestyle model in 1982.

The idea behind this graphic is really pretty simple. Since it was a freestyle deck, I wanted to show the “road” as a place to skate. The road kind of just disappears or keeps going into the web, which of course goes with my name. I really liked the idea of the road coming off the very recognizable G&S logo.
